Track Descriptions
Dance with Me (for Lucy) - This song, is the single from the album Vanguard. It's a mid-century latin flavored dance number, written in loving memory of my mother. The track features a wonderful guitar solo by my lifelong friend, the incomparable Ray Matuza.
Waltz for Leila - Track 2 from the album Vanguard. It's a big band arrangement of a song written for my wife. Ray Matuza played the beautiful guitar solo on this one, using his Mirabella Custom archtop guitar.
Ancient Dance - Track 3 from the album Vanguard. It's a raw mid-century big band dance number. It features Soprano sax and Flugelhorn.
48th Street (for Henry) - Track 4 from the album Vanguard album. I wrote this one in memory of my friend, Henry Goldrich. Henry owned Manny's on West 48th Street in NYC, the legendary musical instrument shop. Henry was one of my favorite people on the planet, and a truly wonderful person. This track also features a guitar solo by Ray Matuza, using his 1959 Gibson ES-175.
Naturally - Track 5 from the album Vanguard. It's another mid-century inspired tune. It features Soprano and Tenor saxes, and a lush string arrangement.
Samsara - Track 1 from the album Upward. A Mahavishnu Orchestra inspired tune. In memory of my friend and fellow bassist, Rick Laird. It features solo work on Violin, electric guitar and Minimoog synthesizer.
Return To Never (For Chick Corea) - Track 2 from the album Upward. Inspired by RTF… dedicated to the memory of a true gentleman, and brilliant pianist. The track features sections highlighting the electric and the acoustic side of things.
Mercury Ascending - Track 3 from the album Upward. A tune reminiscent of Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter's work in WR, written many years ago for someone very special in my life… Mercury (RIP). It features Soprano sax, Moog and Oberheim synths.
Abandoned - Track 4 from the album Upward. A dreamy Weather Report inspired tune. It features Soprano sax, fretless bass and Rhodes.
Say Goodnight - Track 5 from the album Upward. A fun romp in the freeform and bop styles. It features Tenor & Baritone saxes, Upright bass, Trumpet and Piano.
The Visitor - Track 6 from the album Upward. A 70's style Jazz track ala Miles and friends. It features Soprano sax, Flugelhorn and Bass Clarinet.
Riding The Rails - Track 7 from the album Upward. One of my favorite tunes to play… this one features solos on Drums, Soprano sax and Trumpet.
Absolutely - A Jazz ballad featuring solos on trombone, muted trumpet and upright bass. A string section provides a sultry feel in the background.
